Having just returned from Marsa Shagra in the Red Sea I am in
the process of downloading and going through the video I took
there while running the course. The Camera and housing is from
Cameras Underwater in Devon and is the Sony HDR-XR550 in a Gates
housing. Its the first time of using this combination and
I have to say that I love it.
Jenny Rosenfeld at Cameras Underwater
recommended this set up as the best for my purpose which was
while needing something light for reasons of airline excess baggage,
I had to have a camera and housing that was very easy to use
for showing students, reliable, as Marsa Shagra is miles from
any repair possibilities, and also I needed excellent quality.
The camera produces video in the
AVCHD format and is a very high quality and fits snugly into
the purpose designed Gates housing which gives easy direct excess
to all the main camera functions while videoing underwater. The
housing is also well balanced and very easy to maneuver while
the large video screen gives a wonderfully clear picture.
In addition to the video capabilities
of the set up, there is also a very useful photo
lever that allows you easily to depress and take a good quality
still photos on an SD card while in the middle of doing your
video shot. This is extremely useful as it provide you with a
great photo image of action or behavior you might otherwise not
have got. There is of course always the option of taking a still
image from your video frame but the quality wont be nearly
as good. |
