** 625 line systems B-D, G-L are designed to fit into a 7-8MHz
wide broadcast channel, according to the European scheme. Systems
M and N are designed to fit into 6MHz wide channels, according
to the American scheme. The loss of horizontal resolution from
squeezing 625 line TV into an American channel (system N) was
more theoretical than serious at the time of adoption, since
early colour TVs couldn't reproduce fine detail. Standard VHS
and 8mm recorders have even less bandwidth than system N allows. |
