Disabling the SP function:
For compatibility with the 4-wire TTL system used by Ikelite, the SP function must be disabled (the strobe will indicate an error condition if SP is not asserted when in TTL mode). This can be done in 2 ways:
1) Join SP to Rdy via 22K. The resistor can be squeezesd into the sync cable, inside the strobe connector.
2) Open the strobe, short Q18 c-e, or remove R59.

Electronic (thyristor X) SLR compatibility:
Electronic SLRs, such as the Nikon F801 et seq., instead of having a normal X-contact, have the X-terminal connected to the anode of an SCR. Such cameras are incompatible with the Aqua F-III because the strobe X-line pull-up resistor (R38) is only 220W. If the F-III is connected to an F801, the flash will fire once and then refuse to fire again until switched off and on, or momentarily disconnected from the camera. Increasing R38 to greater than 2KW drops the X-terminal current to less than the SCR holding current, but unfortunately also results in a spurious error message fron the strobe in TTL mode. The problem is cured by adding a buffer circuit (inside the strobe housing) thus:

The 1nF + 100W input network prevents spurious triggering due to cable capacitance effects (especially when used with the Nik V). Without it, the strobe will trigger when transitions occur on the SP or Q lines.
